MNS organises talk on mammals of Borneo, Bornean clouded leopard

KUCHING: Malaysian Nature Society, Kuching Branch will be conducting a talk by Quentin Phillipps on the mammals of Borneo with the focus on the Bornean clouded leopard on Thursday, Dec 7  at the Islamic Information Centre.

In Borneo there are 247 species of mammals, of which 100 are bats and 63 are only found in Borneo. They occupy the varied habitats and ecosystems of the island.

The Bornean clouded leopard, one of the five wild cat species require large territories to hunt wild boar and deer, but are also able to climb trees and hunt arboreal species.

The speaker, Quentin Phillips, who has been passionate about nature from a young age, will take you on a journey into the life of this elusive cat.

Quentin, with his sister, Karen who is a professional wildlife artist; produced two outstanding books on Borneo: ‘Phillipps’ Field Guide to the Mammals of Borneo and their Ecology’ and ‘Phillips Field Guide to the Birds of Borneo’.

He was born in Sandakan and grew up in Sabah. Phillips currently splits his time between the UK and Kota Kinabalu. At present he is working on a monograph of 150 species of Bornean Figs.
