Brunei musclemen hog the limelight in Miri

MIRI: Zorizal Johari from Brunei beat three other category winners to emerge as ‘Champion of Champions’  of the 2017 Mr. Borneo Carnival held at Boulevard Shopping Mall parking space here on Saturday.

The event was organised by Taste of Borneo Carnival 2017 with Sarawak Chinese Association and Sarawak Islamic Information Centre working in partnership with Kedayan Miri Association, Malay Association Miri, Dayak Association Miri, Federation of Orang Ulu Association Sarawak, Sikh Association Miri and Indian Association Miri.

Zorizal actually led two other compatriots as Brunei cleaned up three of the four category titles at stake.

This left the 70kg and below event which was won by Miri’s Azri Asmat Sefri from Mohd Rafi Neludin from Brunei (runner-up) and Alfie Khan from Sibu third.

The 70kg and above category saw Zorizal finishing ahead of Kelvin Ling from Miri and Awangku Hosin Awangku Bagul.

In the Physique 170cm and above contest Brunei’s Asnie Idris outmuscled Mohd Alzrin Abdul Gani from Miri and Alfie Khan from Sibu.

The top three positions for the Physique 170cm and below category all went to competitors from Brunei as Aisamuddin Sapar defeated Khalid Yussop and Mohd Nor Fazale.

Present during the function were organising chairperson of Taste of Borneo Carnival 2017 organising chairman Harry Lee Tian Song, Sarawak Chinese Association president Ting Pang Soon and Miri Bodybuilding Association chairperson Jamilah Ibrahim.

In her speech Jamilah said events such as the Mr. Borneo Carnival will boost youth participation in healthy activities and also draw tourists from Brunei.

Nearly 40 bodybuilders from Miri, Sibu and Brunei took part in the competition.
