MIRI: Indonesia-based Xpress Air is set to embark on its maiden flight to this city from Pontianak this Dec 12.

Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin disclosed the news to reporters during a press conference here yesterday, saying that this city and its surrounding areas could expect to receive more visitors from Pontianak following the launch of this direct flight.

“We are delighted by this, and look forward to the first (Xpress Air) flight entering Miri Airport.

“The aircraft is expected to take off from Pontianak on Dec 12 at 1.25pm (Indonesia time) and should reach Miri by 4pm (Malaysia time). The return flight is scheduled to leave Miri at 4.50pm and is estimated to arrive at Pontianak at 5.25pm (Indonesia time),” he said.

It is learnt that Xpress Air’s Pontianak-Miri trip would be available every Tuesday and Saturday.

“Similarly, we are hoping to strengthen the relationship between Miri (Sarawak) and Indonesian government, and their people – after all, we are neighbours.

“This relationship is equally beneficial for both sides,” Lee said.
