MIRI: Participants and members of the public who will be attending this year’s Miri City Christmas Parade on Dec 9 are reminded to dispose of their waste at the rubbish bins that will be placed at every corner of the Miri City Fan during the event.

Mayor Adam Yii said they expected about 45,000 participants from 20 churches in and around Miri as well as members of the public from different races and religious backgrounds to attend the 10th edition of the Miri City Christmas Parade.

“While enjoying the Christmas ambience, it is equally important to show gratitude to Mother Nature by not littering indiscriminately.

“Of course, constant reminders will be given during the event day, as well as deploying the cleaning team the next morning to clean up the park thoroughly to ensure the recreational park is back to its spotless image,” he told reporters after a meeting yesterday.

The mayor also informed that rehearsal and tests on the gigantic Christmas tree would be conducted for two continuous nights prior to the event day to ensure that everything will run smoothly.

“This year, we are proud to say that this year’s Christmas tree is the tallest ever at 42 feet, therefore Mirians, tourists and travellers are welcome to enjoy the beautiful scene,” he said.

The parade’s route will be from Miri City Fan to Jalan Sylvia, Jalan Brooke, Jalan Kingsway, Jalan Puchong, Jalan Padang, Jalan Melayu, Jalan Nahkoda Gampar, Jalan Cina, Jalan Bendahara, Jalan North Yu Seng, Jalan South Yu Seng, Jalan Merpati and Jalan Kipas and back to Miri City Fan.

As the roads will be closed to traffic from 5pm, Yii reminded participants and the public to arrive early at the City Fan and to park their vehicles properly so as not to cause traffic congestion.

The 10th Miri City Christmas Parade will be graced by Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.
