LOAGAN BUNUT, Baram: Seventy-seven students from six primary and secondary schools in Baram parliamentary constituency received monetary assistance from Baram MP Anyi Ngau yesterday.

According to Anyi, the monetary assistance was under the ‘Back to School’ programme, a corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative spearheaded by Barisan Nasional Backbenchers Club  (BNBBC) in collaboration with government-linked companies (GLCs).

“The objective of this programme is to lighten the burden of families preparing children for the new school session in year 2018 in several parliamentary areas,” Anyi said prior to the handover of the assistance at Loagan Bunut Palm Oil Mill here yesterday.

Boustead Plantations Berhad (BPB), a subsidiary of Boustead Holdings Berhad participated in this programme under which BPB will contribute a total of RM120,000 for three parliamentary areas namely RM40,000 respectively for Kanowit and Baram in Sarawak and Beluran in Sabah where several of the BPB’s estates are located.

BPB has collaborated with Anyi for the second consecutive year in making this initiative a success.

“Two hundred students have been selected as recipients. They comprise children of the estate’s workers and other students identified within Baram parliamentary area,” said Boustead Plantations Berhad senior general manager (administration and corporate communications) Dato Shoib Abdullah.

The children are students from the nearby schools within the area namely SK Sungai Bong, SK Long Lapok, SK Long Teru, SMK Tinjar, SMK Long Lama Baram and SMK Marudi. They received financial aid of RM200 each.

BPB hopes this contribution will help the students purchase school items such as uniforms, bags, shoes and stationery.

“Hopefully, this assistance can lighten the parents’ burden in preparing their children for school in 2018.

“It shows BPB emphasises care for the social wellbeing of its employees and their family members.

“BPB will remain steadfast in its commitment to contribute and support the local community it operates in through its various CSR initiatives,” he added.
