58 teams compete in inter-mosque sepak takraw tourney

MIRI: A total of 58 teams took part in the 4th Inter-mosque Sepak Takraw Championship here recently.

The rain-hit tournament was divided into three categories – Veteran (Bekenu Assemblywoman Rosey Yunus Cup), Closed-invitational (Lambir Assemblyman Ripin Lamat Cup) and Open (Sibuti MP Datuk Ahmad Lai Bujang Cup).

Team Kampung Muhibah Kuala Baram (KMKB) emerged as champion in the Open category, which was participated by 33 other teams. Team Pusiran came in second, while team Galaxy third and team Lambir fourth.

Team UK 883 outshone seven other teams to take the veteran title. Masuka were second while Mafia third and Bekenu fourth.

Team Lambir won the Closed-invitational category, ahead of Sol Burger and Sungai Dalam.

The winners also received medals, hamper and cash prizes.

The final for the closed category was held on Nov 26, while the open and veteran categories on Dec 3.

According to organising chairperson Zainudin Ahmad, the tournament was organised by Darul Istiqamah Mosque of Kampung Luak to mark its 15th anniversary, and this year the participating teams included those from Kuching, Igan, Bintulu, Lambir, Bekenu and Kuala Baram.

The tournament was also attended by Sibuti MP Datuk Ahmad Lai Bujang and State Islamic Affairs Department (Jais) director Ismail Mohd Hanis.

It was sponsored by the three respective people’s representatives, A Hong Grocer and Darul Istiqamah Mosque.
