KUCHING: Young Swiss player Kevin Shiak Kin Gunter is hoping to don the Sarawak jersey for the Premier League next season.

The 25-year-old of mixed Swiss-Sarawak parentage is among the 29 players who are undergoing a selection trial and training under head coach Andrew Gillan at Padang C, Petra Jaya.

Gunter’s mother is from Belaga and the fact that he is a Swiss citizen has not dampened his interest to return to Malaysia.

He commenced his carrier with Zurich Football Club (2004/2005) and SC Young Fellow Juventus (2005/2006) before moving to Wiedikon Football Club, Zurich (2006-2015).

In 2015, Gunter joined a selection session for Johor Darul Ta’azim (JDT) squad but was not selected.

However, his service was still valued when he signed a contract with the Negeri Sembilan Football Association in August 2015 to play in Premier League 2016 before he moved to UiTM Football Club in the middle of last year.

Football Association of Sarawak (FAS) will be sending the players to the Peninsular Malaysia to play pre-season friendly games with three teams.

The friendlies will serve as a warming-up for the state players before the team will be finalised.
