KUCHING: A 22-year-old Indonesian man was believed to have died of injuries after a fight broke out between him and a workmate last night.

The incident, which took place in the worker’s quarters of a construction site at Jalan Stephen Yong, also saw the suspect – a 26-year-old local man from Sibu – being apprehended for the alleged murder.

Padawan district police chief Supt Aidil Bolhassan, who confirmed the case, said early investigations revealed that prior to the fight, the suspect and the deceased were part of a group of ten who were drinking alcoholic beverages at the quarters.

“The suspect have accused the deceased for entering his room at the quarters and challenged him to do so again,” said Aidil this morning.

The deceased who did not back out of the challenge, entered the suspect’s room where a fatal fight ensued behind locked doors for about five minutes.

Other workmates who heard the commotion quickly rushed to the room and broke open the door only to find the lifeless body of the Indonesian man.

The workers quickly apprehended the suspect, whom they said was trying to make a run.

Medical personnel who were called to the scene moments later confirmed that the man had died on the spot.

“The case is currently investigated under Section 302 for murder. The suspect is in police custody while a postmortem will be carried out at the Sarawak General Hospital’s morgue,” said Aidil.
