Agro-collection centre in Keningau proposed

KENINGAU: Persatuan Dusun Pribumi Pedalaman Sabah (PDSS) has proposed for the state government to set up an agriculture collection centre in the interior areas especially Keningau to help the locals market their produce.

It secretary-general Rosanna Edeza said the centre could market agricultural products in an organised manner as well as protect the producers from being exploited by middlemen or wholesalers.

“Since there is no such centre, the residents have to sell their products on their own, in a haphazard manner.

“This gives middlemen or wholesalers the opportunity to reap huge profits from them.

“The middlemen men or wholesalers go to the farms to buy the produce at very low prices,” she told Bernama.

“The government must resolve this situation.

“If it persists, the locals will lose interest and production will drop, thus affecting the economy in the interior areas,” she said. — Bernama
