MIRI: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Mulu is looking to increase its membership strength before the next state election.

State Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker and Mulu assemblyman Datuk Gerawat Gala said the branch currently has some 4,300 members.

“The number of registered voters in Mulu at the previous state election was 8,600. This means in terms of our membership, we make up to 50 per cent of the total number of voters for Mulu.

“This is a satisfying achievement. However, this number can be further enhanced within the next three years after the recent election of the committee for the main body, women’s and youth wings for PBB Mulu branch,” he said at the PBB Mulu delegates meeting yesterday.

He pointed out that the number of voters in Mulu is still far behind those in other state constituencies.

“We are looking forward to increase the number of our registered voters to 10,000 for the next state election,” he said.

Gerawat, who is branch chairman, urged the new committee to work together with other Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties.

He also reminded members to always plan programmes and activities for the local community.

“We must involve the local community, who are not members, because through these programmes we would be able to increase our number of members and registered voters. We should always be inclusive.

“When we organise activities, make sure it involves also those who are not party members and other BN component parties. Also, always make sure the programmes and activities are impactful to the local community,” he added.
