MASAI, Johor: Sarawakians living in Johor have been assured that they are welcomed and that the state government will look after their interests during their stay in the state.
This assurance was given by Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Mohamed Khalid Nordin at the launching of Utusan Borneo Johor Edition e-paper here during a pre-Christmas lunch hosted by the Borneo Association at the Pasar Borneo here today.
He was accompanied by Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade, Cooperative and Consumerism Datuk Henry Sum Agong when officiating at the function.
Pasar Borneo at Jalan Bayan here was set up three years ago to cater for traders from Sarawak who had been trading by the roadside and five foot way in the area.
According to Borneo Association deputy chairman Resen Enli, currently the market which operates on weekends and Wednesday, houses about 50 stalls operated by Sarawakians selling just jungle produce and Sarawakian delicacies.
The traders have transformed this little corner of Johor Bahru into ‘Little Sarawak’ where the large population of Sarawakians who live mostly in the area come together to get a feeling of home.
During the function Mohamed Khaled presented Christmas gifts to members of the Borneo association.
