MIRI: Miri police arrested a 32-year-old man on Dec 9 to facilitate police investigation into the murder of the 52-year-old woman whose body was dumped into a river in Pulau Melayu here on Dec 2.

The arrest of the man came about five days after the main suspect was arrested on Dec 4.

State CID chief Datuk Dev Kumar, when contacted today, confirmed the arrest.

“We arrested another person of interest who could shed more light on the events leading to the murder.

“Investigation is still ongoing to determine his (suspect’s) role in the murder,” Dev said.

He added that the suspect, an unemployed who is also the main suspect’s friend, had been remanded for seven days until Dec 17 to facilitate police investigation.

On Dec 2, a fisherman found a decomposed body of a woman floating on a river in Kampung Pulau Melayu.

On Dec 3, police identified the victim as 52-year-old Yeong Musa from Mukah after they traced a police report lodged by Yeong’s family in a police station in Mukah.

Yeong’s family identified her body based on the clothing she was wearing and a birth mark on her body.

On Dec 4 at about 7.30am, police arrested the main suspect, a 25-year-old local man who is also the victim’s boyfriend.

He is believed to have murdered the victim on Nov 30 and threw the body into the river in Kampung Pulau Melayu.
