KENINGAU: Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Tan Sri Joseph Kurup said the celebration of Christmas showed how much the country appreciated the roles, contributions and unity among the various communities in the state.
He said the diversity of cultures and religions found in the country could not be found in any other country in the world.
“Therefore, we must always respect and appreciate this diversity, which is the key to the socio-economic progress of the country,” he said when officiating at the SIB Christmas Open House at Sook Community Hall here, on Saturday.
Kurup, who is also Pensiangan member of parliament, called on the people to make this Christmas Day a foundation to strengthen commitment and solidarity.
“Let’s take a step together and contribute to Malaysia’s prosperity and harmony, and continue developing towards a developed and prosperous nation,” he said.
According to him, the practice of sharing celebrations and respecting the celebrations of other races must continue in order to maintain the identity of a unique and harmonious Malaysian society.
