MIRI: Police have made a second arrest in connection with the murder of a 52-year-old woman, whose body was found in a river at Kampung Pulau Melayu here on Dec 2.

State CID chief Datuk Dev Kumar, when contacted yesterday, confirmed that the 32-year-old man, who is a friend of the main suspect, was picked up last Saturday at Piasau Industrial Estate.

“We arrested another person of interest who could shed more light on the events leading to the murder.

“Investigation is still ongoing to determine his role in the murder,” Dev Kumar said, adding the suspect has been remanded for seven days until Dec 17 to facilitate the investigation.

On the outcome of a post-mortem conducted on the deceased, he said the victim had neck and chest injuries due to a fall from a height.

The woman’s decomposed body was found floating in the river by a fisherman on the morning of Dec 2.

She was later identified as 52-year-old Yeong Musa, a divorcee with four children.

Two days later, police arrested the main suspect, a 25-year-old man, who was found to be the victim’s boyfriend.

The case has been classified under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, which carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.
