Green Revolution increases DAS support capacity

BANJARMASIN, South Kalimantan: Head of South Kalimantan Forestry Agency Dr Hanif Faisal Nurofiq said the Green Revolution increases the carrying capacity of the river basin area (DAS) through planting on critical land, Antaranews reported.

Through the Green Revolution, the planting movement is now more intensively implemented not only by the government but also the community. This, he said, is very beneficial efforts to accelerate the handling of critical land as well as to help the community improve their welfare, because the trees planted among them are economical.

“The Green Revolution is the initiation of the Governor of South Kalimantan Sahbirin Noor, which aims to change people’s behavior quickly and accurately to improve the quality of the environment through tree planting activities,” he said in Banjarmasin on Monday.

The program, not only gets great support from the community, but also got the attention of the central government.

Even the President Joko Widodo gave appreciation to the governor and communities for the real effort to save the environment. The appreciation realized by the award given to the Governor of South Kalimantan at the Anniversary of Planting Day of Indonesia (HMPI) and National Planting Month (BMN) 2017.

In the event attended by President H Joko Widodo in Karangasem Village, Ponjong Subdistrict, Gunung Kidul, Yogyakarta, Saturday (9/12/2017), South Kalimantan Governor became the only governor in Kalimantan was awarded.

Based on the report of the Minister of Environment and Forestry Siti Nurbaya, for the provincial level, there were three governors awarded, namely Central Sulawesi Governor Drs H Longky Djanggola, South Kalimantan Governor H Sahbirin Noor, and North Sumatra Governor H Tengku Erry Nuradi.

According to LHK Minister Siti Nurbaya, the heads of regions that got the awards both at the provincial, district or city level are those who have provided real examples in encouraging environmental sustainability efforts.

Governor H Sahbirin Noor said the award belongs to the people of South Kalimantan and all related parties in a joint effort to conserve the environment, especially to prevent and rehabilitate critical land.
