KUALA LUMPUR: The organiser of Klang City International Marathon which was carried out without approval from the Sports Commissioner’s Office (PPS) will face legal action under Section 36 of the Sports Development Act 1997.

Sports Commissioner, Datuk Zaiton Othman said, organisers of sports events should obtain permission from PPS as stipulated in the Act, besides obtaining permission from sports organising bodies, police and local authorities.

Zaiton in a statement yesterday said the PPS did not receive a licence application from the marathon’s organiser.

“Organisers are required to obtain a licence from the Sports Commissioner’s Office to ensure they are financially and technically capable and comply with the methods and guidelines set by the national and international sports organising bodies,” she said.

Therefore, Zaiton also reminded all sports event organisers to obtain approval from PPS before organising their events, for the sake of the event’s smoothness and security.

She said beginning this Thursday, the PPS would upload the list of sports events which have been given permission to be organised on Ministry of Youth and Sports’ website: kbs.gov.my.
