KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) is coordinating five working groups involving various ministries in drafting the National Industry 4.0 policy framework.

Its minister, Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed said the first draft of the framework was presented to him this morning and would be submitted to the government by end of January next year.

“I am very pleased with the progress and we want to try to complete it within the target of the first quarter of next year. However, April is more doable,” he told reporters at MITI’s hi-tea here yesterday.

The ministries involved are the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, Ministry of Human Resources, Ministry of Higher Education, Ministry of Finance, and Ministry of Communications and Multimedia.

He said the working groups had been working on the draft of the blueprint for 18 months and the completion of this framework would be a top priority for MITI in 2018.

After the framework is tabled in Parliament, the government will decide which ministry will drive the implementation of the National Industry 4.0, he added.

Meanwhile, Mustapa said he would not be attending the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland next year due to work commitment.

He had been attending the event from 2010 until 2017.

“Election is coming soon and I am the chairman of Barisan Nasional Kelantan. There are a lot of work coming my way,” he added. — Bernama
