Mukah, Sarikei spikers show their class

KUCHING: Mukah beat IJM Land 2-0 in the men’s final of the 1st Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian Cup Volleyball Championship at MBKS Indoor Stadium in Pending last Sunday.

The Mukah team, powered by national player Ramjit Ramu, were a class above their opponents, taking the first set 25-17 and followed up with a 25-15 win in the second set.

Mukah walked away with RM1,000, challenge trophy, champions trophy and medals while IJM Land had to settle for RM600, trophy and medals.

Mega Electrical also beat PJVC 2-0 in the play-off to finish third.

In the women’s competition, Camaderie Eternally from Sarikei blanked Unimas 2-0  (25-15, 25-17) in the final to collect RM800, a trophy and medals.

Unimas took home RM500, a trophy and medals while Mukah beat UiTM 2-0 (25-17, 25-14) to finish third.

Other teams for the men’s category are PDRM, CV’S, Unimas, Medicmix, CHMS No 1, SVC (SIDMA), UiTM,, Alumni MRSM Betong, Lundu, Politeknik Kuching while the women’s category inluded CHMS No 1, JLKN, , Li Ting Sangat Gemuk (LTSG), PDRM, Politeknik Kuching, Friendly, CV’S, Icarevc Mukah, PJVC and SVC (SIDMA).

Minister of Local Government and Housing Datuk Prof Dr Sim Kui Hian closed the event and gave away the prizes.

Also present were Kuching Division Volleyball Association vice president Andrew Ting and secretary Chai Poh Fatt.
