Archers from Miri sweep state indoor championship

SIBU: Defending champion Miri X-Tune again dominated the 13th Sarawak Indoor Archery Championship which ended at Catholic High School here Monday evening.

The team won four gold, three silver and one bronze medals for a total of 30 points to lift the Dato Seri Tiong King Sing Challenge Cup.

Sarawak Sports Council (MSNS) team was second.

Miri X-Tune A swept the recurve men and women, compound men and women events.

MSNS was runner-up in recurve men and women while Miri X-Tune B finished third in compound men and women.

Miri X-Tune A amassed 1,424 points to emerge as youth team champion followed by Malacca (1,397), X-Tune B (1,179) and Pemasa Lawas (1,053).

Over 150 archers from 13 teams from throughout Sarawak plus a team from Malacca took part in the three-day championship organised by Sibu Division Archery Association (Sdaa).

In his closing remarks, Tiong hoped more local sports bodies would organise tournaments on such a grand scale.

“This championship is a manifestation of the success of the community here in the development of archery sport for the benefit of all people,” he said in a speech read out by Teo Boon Siew.
