Jamit takes part in the ‘miring’ ceremony to declare open the site for the new longhouse.

Jamit, assisted by Ringgit (front, third right), places cement on the foundation of the first pole of the new longhouse.

KAPIT: Residents of Rumah Johnny Undi at Jalan Bukit Goram here have progressed well in terms of infrastructure over the years.

They now live better than they were in the earlier years, enjoying 24-hour electricity and treated water supply and as far as commuting goes, it only takes about a 15-minute drive to reach the town centre.

This was stated by Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit Unyat when he officiated at the start of the construction of a new longhouse yesterday afternoon.

He said it was the second time he visited the longhouse – the first time was before the state election last year, back when he was still a political secretary to chief minister.

The new seven-door longhouse is being built beside the existing 20-door longhouse to accommodate the increasing population.

“To all voters at Jalan Bukit Goram, Sungai Kapit and Jalan Ulu Sungai Yong, I thank you for voting for me in the last state election.

“I will do the best I can to serve all of you during my tenure.”

On the next parliamentary election, Jamit called upon the people to vote for incumbent Kapit MP Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi so that he too would be able to continue serving the people.

At the function, Jamit announced an allocation of RM1,000 for each of the 27 household heads of the longhouse, and RM6,000 for its women’s bureau.

Kapit District Council deputy secretary Kelimbit Sibat, Youth and Sports Department officer Jack Janda, Kapit Information officer Gara I Entili, Special Affairs Department officer Mohd Matan Yok, Community Development Department supervisor Patrick Gong, Kapit Civic Centre manager Bakat Gira and Deputy Tuai Rumah Ringgit Unaun were among those present.
