PTPTN working on creating a new image

SEPANG: The National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) is working on creating a new image, said its deputy chief executive Mastura Mohd Khalid.

Instead of being labelled as a moneylender and debt collector, PTPTN should be viewed as an agency which promotes savings for higher education.

“Cultivating the savings habit from a young age is important because making preparations for the future is better than borrowing.

“PTPTN should not be remembered only as loan providers and we do not want young people to be saddled with debts (education loan) in the future,” she told reporters after receiving contribution from AirAsia at the company’s headquarters here yesterday.

She said as of Oct 31 this year 3.1 million PTPTN accounts were opened with a total savings of RM2.97 billion but this was still considered low based on Malaysia’s population of more than 31 million. — Bernama
