Security of Sabah, people remains top priority of the federal govt – Ahmad Zahid

LAHAD DATU: The security of Sabah and its people remains the top priority of federal government, said Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

In noting that the federal government is always committed in ensuring the security in this state is under control, Ahmad Zahid said several actions have been discussed to ensure Sabah’s security is at its best.

Ahmad Zahid said the actions including tightening control on the areas that are exposed to cross-border criminals and the resorts in the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (ESSZone).

“This action is important to ensure the security of tourists and to ensure that there is no opportunity or chance for the intruders as well as cross border criminals to commit crime,” he said in a press conference during a working visit to the 17  Battalion, General Operations Force (PGA) here, today.

Speaking about his working visit with Sabah Chief Minister, Tan Sri Musa Aman, Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Noor Rashid Ibrahim and Director-General of the National Security Council Tan Sri Zulkefli Mohd Zain, Ahmad Zahid said this visit aimed to examine all decisions that made at the advisory board meeting, this year.

He said that this was among follow up actions taken by the government to ensure the security of this state is under control.

“I and Sabah Chief Minister, Tan Sri Musa Aman are satisfied with the performance demonstrated by Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCom) in safeguarding the security in ESSZone,” he said.

In the meantime, Ahmad Zahid said that a massive assembly will be held on March 5, next year to celebrate ESSCom’s five-year anniversary.

Ahmad Zahid said that the secretariat of the celebration will be headed by ESSCom with the help from Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) as well as RELA and coordinated by National Security Council (MKN).

The celebration will also involve all community leaders throughout the state.
