KUCHING: A former government agency director and his wife were injured during a gang robbery at their house at Jalan Manggis, here yesterday.

The former director, who is in his 70s, was with his wife when three men – believed to be foreigners – barged into their house and tied them up in the living room.

The robbers also beat up the couple before ransacking the house and fleeing the scene about 30 minutes later using the couple’s car, said a source.

The couple managed to free themselves after the suspects left and sought help from a neighbour to contact the Civil Defence Force (APM).

Both of them sustained injuries to the face and head and were sent to the hospital in an APM ambulance, the source added.

A relative, meanwhile, said it was not the first time thieves had entered the couple’s house.

“Only two of them stay at the house as their children are working in West Malaysia. Similar incidents have happened to them before but this is the first time they got hurt,” he said.

Meanwhile, it was learnt that the couple’s stolen car was found abandoned in Serikin, Bau later yesterday.
