MIRI: An Indonesian housewife suffered a loss of about RM2,200 after being tricked by an acquaintance on a social networking site recently.

According to a source, the 29-year-old woman got to know the man on Facebook last September before they started to chat on Whatsapp.

“The man said he will send a gift to the woman in the form of jewellery and cash. However the man told her the goods were detained at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and she was required to pay GST charges,” said the source.

It is learnt that the victim believed the man’s words had put the money into an account given to her. The victim realised she has been cheated when the goods she paid for were not received. She lodged a police report at Miri Central Police Station for further investigation.
