KAPIT: Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Kapit set up counters here from Tuesday to yesterday to help the public, especially the elderly, with their online 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M) online applications.

Chairman Ling Thiam Ing said some 200 applicants sought help from the volunteers manning the counters.

“When we organised this service counter, it was only supposed to be for one day but due to the overwhelming response, we decided to extend from Tuesday to Friday (yesterday) to help those in need.

“Indeed we are happy that we are able to play our role to help the grassroots. Our aim is to promote BN (Barisan Nasional), that is to serve the people. We want to show the people that we are service orientated,” he said.

Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit Unyat visited the counters on Wednesday.

He praised SUPP for taking a proactive approach to help the people. Jamit also suggested SUPP work closely with other BN component parties as one family.
