KUCHING: Social Security Organisation (Socso) Sarawak has spent a total of RM19.51 million on 2,555 cases this year, involving various kinds of benefits provided under the agency.

Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri Richard Riot said the payout, as at September, included the temporary disability benefits, permanent disability benefit, as well as the dependent benefits.

He also disclosed that during the period, the number of active employers in the state contributing to Socso stood at 37,007 people, while the number of active employees covered was 453,102 people.

“The total contribution to Socso Sarawak as at Nov 30 this year is RM6.5 million,” he said at Socso Pre-Christmas 2017 Celebration here yesterday.

On the event, Riot said the objective was to celebrate the festival with the insured individuals and the dependents of workers and at the same time, to promote the spirit of unity in diversity in Malaysians across the state.

He said the activity was also part of Socso’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) as well as to shape and develop the image of an organisation that is responsible for ensuring the health, wellbeing and safety of workers.

Later, the minister handed over cheques totalling RM110,000 to six Socso beneficiaries and also wheelchairs to four individuals.

Riot also gave away gifts to 90 guests at the event, which was also attended by his ministry’s secretary general Datuk Dr Gazali Abas, Socso deputy chief executive (corporate) Datin Azlaily Abd Rahman and Socso deputy chief executive (operations) John Riba Marin.
