MIRI: United People’s Party (UPP)  launched the fourth cycle of its mobile action team (MAT) yesterday.

In the first week (Dec 16), the MAT booth was set up at 2020 Pelita Commercial centre from 8am to 11am.

It will be set up in the second week at Liang Heng Cold Drinks Krokop 5 Market on Dec 23 from 3pm to 6pm; third week at Sin Yakin Food Centre on Dec 31 from 8am to 11am; fourth week at Krokop 10 Market on Jan 7, 2018 from 8am to 11am.

For the fifth week, MAT team will be at Restaurant Aseanika, Saberkas Commercial Centre on Jan 13 from 4pm to 7pm; sixth week,  on Jan 21 at Pasar Nelayan, Piasau Utara 1A from 8am to 11am; seventh week,  at Taman Bulatan Miri on Jan 14 from 4pm to 7pm and finally on the eighth week, the team will be at 59 Street Café Sevenew, Pujut 7 from 8am to 11am.

Chai pointed out that the time has been changed to either Saturday or Sunday, instead of both days due to lack of manpower.

“At year end and early January, many of our volunteers will be spending time with their families so there is an adjustment to avoid burdening them with the workload,” he told reporters at a press conference yesterday.

MAT, which has completed its third cycle (Oct 16 to Dec 10), has managed to reach out to the people.

“It’s important to use social media for people to post their complaints. Apart from reaching out to people through our booth, we look for potential needy cases through social media like Facebook; investigate and submit it to a related government agency,” he said, adding that UPP will continue to work to help those in need.

Cases the mobile team received come under Talikhidmat, social welfare, voter registration, UPP member application, UPP education application and those involving birth certificates and MyKads.

Chai revealed that UPP will

be leading a group of 12 families from Piasau Utara to apply for the E-Kasih programme at the District Office on Monday

(Dec 18) morning with UPP Pujut branch making transport arrangement for the applicants.
