KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Minister of Defence Datuk Seri Mohd Johari Baharum said the Royal Military College (RMC) targets  20 per cent intake of non-Malay students to bridge the racial gap.

“There is no quota.  We have programmes with certain quarters so that intake of students from various races can be done,” he told reporters after the annual passing out parade and the prize giving ceremony at RMC in Sungai Besi here, yesterday.

For the Boys Wing or Putera (Form 4) for 2018, some 2,138 online applications were received, of which 91.2 per cent were from Malay students and only 8.8 per cent from other races.

Only  356 applicants passed the initial interview to fill 200 vacancies, of whom 86.8 per cent are  Malays and 13.2 percent of other races. — Bernama
