MIRI: The boat-landing area at Kampung Batu Satu will be temporarily closed during the king tide to avoid rising sea water from flowing in and causing flood like what happened on Tuesday.
Fishermen at Kampung Batu Satu have been calling for the authority concerned to temporarily close the boat-landing facility after a massive flood which saw them dragging their fishing boats onto the road to save them from being washed out to the sea.
Assistant Minister of Tourism, Art and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin said this was among the requests of fishermen at Kampung Batu Satu who were badly affected by the high tide and flood on Tuesday night.
“I have requested the council to clear the logs and debris brought in by the flood and sea water,” he said when contacted yesterday.
Lee said he had also instructed the Public Works Department (JKR) and the Department of Drainage and Irrigation (DID) to immediately repair the flood gate at Kampung Pujut Tanjong Batu which was overwhelmed by flood caused by continuous rain.
On the landslide at Canada Hill, he said he had also instructed JKR to put up canvas sheets over the area affected by landslide to avoid further soil erosion.
“Even though I’m not in Miri, I will continue to monitor situations in Miri. My special aide Erick Chin will go to the ground and report all incidents to me directly,” he said.
Yesterday, Chin paid a visit to the fishermen market in Batu Satu to look at the situation after the area was badly hit by flood and overflowing sea water following the king tide.
