KUCHING: After scoring a creditable performance at Sukan Sarawak (SukSar) in Kuching last week, mountain bike rider Lim Chia Hsien is setting an ambitious  target of winning a gold medal in the 19th Sukan Malaysia (Sukma) in Perak next September.

The rider from Sri Aman said winning a silver medal in the recent SukSar was his biggest success in competitive racing after having only commenced training in August. “I am hoping to be able to represent Sarawak in Sukma and win a gold medal,” he said with confidence.

He repaid Sarawak head coach Leon Schepers’ trust in listing him in Northern Zone squad after his efforts to join Western Zone was rejected.

Lim finished behind Southern Zone’s Brandon Lau Yu Siong in the mountain bike race while another Southern Zone rider Lee Zhong Xin came in third.

Race favourite Ivan Ong Siong Li failed to finish his race after meeting an accident.

Southern Zone dominated cycling competition by sweeping all seven golds on offer in road race and mountain bike events.

Leon presented the medals to the winners on the final day of the SukSar cycling competition at Bukit Siol Track along Jalan Semariang.
