KUCHING: The family of the late Chung Soon Teck, who was shot dead by Indonesian police on suspicion of trafficking drugs, filed an order yesterday for a post-mortem procedure to be conducted on the deceased.

Judicial Commissioner Celestina Stuel Galid ordered the defendant, the Sarawak Commissioner of Police, to file the affidavit in opposition by Thursday.

Also named as defendant in the summons is the State Health Director.

Chung’s wife Tan Lee San filed the application with the assistance of SUPP public complaints bureau chief Wilfred Yap.

The post-mortem is required to ascertain the cause of the death, a report of the appearance of the body, as well as the conclusions that can be drawn from the result.

“The application is made because the police say the death of the victim occurred outside Malaysia and it is outside their jurisdiction,” Yap said.

It was previously reported that Chung, 48, was suspected of transporting three kilogrammes of Syabu to Pontianak, through the Entikong border, when he was shot dead by National Narcotics Agency (BNN) personnel in his bid to escape on Nov 18 last year.

The deceased – an automobile salesperson – is said to have gone to the country for a vacation with three Indonesian friends.

The court fixed Jan 16 for hearing of the case.
