KUCHING: Hope Place Kuching has joined hands with property developer Ibraco Berhad to repair the home of 109-year old Maree Mion.

Hope Place Kuching founder Kelvin Wan said that the centenarian has a 59-year old daughter Sa’adiah who suffers from kidney failure and requires dialysis three times a week.

Maree herself is losing her vision and is hard of hearing due to old age.

During their earlier visit, the NGO found that their wooden home was very old, with a sitting room floor that was about collapse due to termite infestation.

They did not have water or electricity supply with only  RM300 per month from Welfare Department.

“We brought this matter to Ibraco and that they are willing to help repair the house for free,” Wan told The Borneo Post.

Ibraco is installing a new concrete floor after removing the old wooden one. They are also building a concrete foundation for a new water tank, a new staircase and verandah.

In addition, Maree will also get a new path so that it would be easier for her to get in and out of her home.

The repair work is currently 40 per cent complete.

Wan’s visit yesterday was received by a joyful Maree, who thanked Hope Place and Ibraco for their kindness.

Hope Place Kuching is an NGO that visits the poor and less fortunate families to contribute some essential food items like rice, cooking oil, sugar, salt, biscuits, and noodles.

Many of these families or individuals barely earn enough to get through the month, hence many are grateful with the assistance of these basic necessities delivered to them.

For the families with children with special needs, or with elderly or disable people, they provide milk powder, oat and diapers as well.

Hope Place carries out their aid deliveries once every two months because of the many families on their recipients list. Currently they support more than 190 families.

For more information on how you can help, Hope Place can be reached at 013-5672775 or 082- 505987 from 8.30am–12pm and 2pm–5pm Mondays to Fridays, Saturday 9am to 12pm.
