Senior citizen dies several hours after accident

PENAMPANG: A senior cirizen died while being treated at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital after he was involved in a road accident along the Putatan-Kota Kinabalu Road near Taman Putatan on Monday.

Lee Toh Ming, 77, from Taman Darius Putatan, was pronounced dead by  doctors several hours after his four-wheel-drive vehicle rammed into the rear of a Proton Saga car around 6.10pm.

District police chief DSP Haris Ibrahim said Lee was heading to Kota Kinabalu from Putatan when he was believed to have lost control of the vehicle.

“The four-wheel-drive vehicle then rammed into the rear of the Proton Saga that was parked by the side of the road.

“The victim was unconscious and was rushed to the hospital for treatment, but he was pronounced dead by doctors several hours later,” said Haris.

The driver of the Proton Saga, sustained minor injury.

The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
