KUCHING: Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Pending Branch and Kuching Branch organised a candlelight vigil this evening to commemorate the first anniversary of the passing of former Chief Minister the late Pehin Sri Adenan Satem.

Adenan, or affectionately called Tok Nan, passed away at the Sarawak Heart Centre in Kota Samarahan on Jan 11, last year.

The vigil was held at the Padungan Cat Statue at 7pm.

The members of both branches also went to Kuching Waterfront at 8pm to support a similar event organised by Sarawak for Sarawakians (S4S).

Candles were lighted at both sites by party members, S4S members and the public.

At the waterfront, Tok Nan’s speech and recording of him singing karaoke were played on speakers.

There was also a huge black-and-white poster of him and bouquet of flowers placed next to his image. The tea candles were lined up to make the words ‘Tok Nan I love you’. There were also larger candles surrounding the makeshift memorial.

“Tok Nan, our fifth Chief Minister that we will remember always as he was easily approachable. We will always miss him,” said SUPP secretary-general Datuk Sebastian Ting.

SUPP deputy secretary-general Sih Hua Tong was among those present.
