Fire razes Miri temple tower

Bomba personnel putting out the fire that occurred at a temple near Taman Tunku here today.

 

MIRI: A tower used to store candles at a Chinese temple near Taman Tunku here was almost totally destroyed by fire today.

According to Miri Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) chief Law Poh Kiong, seven firefighters from Miri Fire and Rescue Station, led by senior fire officer Roslan Jan, were deployed to the scene along with a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) machine and one Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) upon receiving a call at 5.10pm today (Jan 12).

The firefighters were assisted by six personnel from Lopeng Fire and Rescue Station.

“Upon their arrival at 5.26pm, the firefighters found out that a permanent structure with the width of 20 by 20 feet used to store candles for prayer ceremonies, was 60 per cent destroyed by the fire.

“No casualties were reported and the cause of fire is still under investigation,” said Law.

The operation ended at 5.50pm.
