KOTA KINABALU: An Indonesian man was sentenced to 20 months jail by the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday for trespassing the house of a former minister.

Irfan Ikwan, 30, pleaded guilty before magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to trespassing into the house of Datuk Jomilon Mojuntin @ Conrad Mojuntin, 70, at Kampung Dohunsug in Penampang on November 25, 2017.

The unrepresented accused was convicted under Section 448 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to three years or a fine, or both, upon conviction.

Prosecuting officer Inspector Suzie @ Stephanie Kupit told the court that on the day of the incident, Mojuntin was awakened by his wife when she saw a man in their house.

Their son, on being informed of the man’s presence, chased after him, later identified as the accused.

When the accused was apprehended, Mojuntin also came to assist his son on fears that he might be harmed as the accused had a sharp weapon with him and had acted aggressively by throwing a stone in their direction.
