MIRI: Sarawak for Sarawakians (S4S) movement members were saddened to find candles and flowers lit and laid down by sympathisers during a vigil to commemorate the first anniversary of the passing of former Chief Minister the late Pehin Sri Adenan Satem reduced to a pile of mess not long after the vigil ended last night.

S4S activist Eric Chin said the memorial, which was held at a designated area at City Fan and ended at 9pm on Thursday, “took a wrong turn” when the remains of the flowers and candles were found to be in a pile of mess an hour later.

“S4S volunteers have been notified by the public and without any hesitation, braving the rainy weather, S4S volunteers quickly rushed to the scene to clean up the mess.

“At this point of time, it is unclear how could such mess happened. It would be unwise to assume if it was vandalised purposely by irresponsible individuals or was it accidental,” he said to The Borneo Post today.

Chin emphasised that any event conducted by S4S volunteers has always been done accordingly to the law.

“We do not have any evidence whether it is vandalism or someone lighted the candles after we left the venue. What we did was went back to the place and cleaned up the mess.

“S4S also hopes that the police will conduct an investigation into this matter. For such memorial service to be vandalised was really uncalled for,” he added.
