KUCHING: One person was killed while several others were unhurt in a four-vehicle accident near Kampung Telagus in Serian yesterday.

The deceased, 68-year-old Inta Emparu, succumbed to her injuries while receiving treatment at Serian Hospital.

State Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department head Supt Alexson Naga Chabu said the accident took place around 1.35pm, and involved a compact car the victim was travelling in and three four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicles.

The compact car is seen sandwiched between two of the three 4WD vehicles involved in the accident.

“The victim was seated in the back seat of the compact car. Initial investigation revealed that a pickup truck rear ended the compact car and sandwiched it with another pickup truck, which struck a third 4WD vehicle in front of it.

“At the time, the pickup truck driver had failed to realise that the latter three vehicles had come to a halt,” he said in a statement following the incident.

Alexson said Inta suffered head and neck injuries in the incident while the driver and front passenger of the compact car, along with the three other drivers, were not injured.

Police have classified investigation under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
