Classes on despite schools being inundated

MIRI: Six primary schools in the state, including three in Miri Division were affected by flood yesterday but all remained operational and classes carried on as usual.

According to the noon update by state disaster management committee (JPBN)  secretariat, 365 students and 68 teachers braved the low level flood for classes.

The three schools in low lying areas in Miri division which were submerged between one to two feet of water were SK Sungai Kelabit ( Tinjar), SK Kuala Bok and SK Sungai Bong.

SK Iban Union  and SK Sg Anak in Selangau were also in operation despite being inundated in three to four feet of water.

SK Kuala Kenyana in Mukah is considered at risk with water level between three to four feet, and students are returning to their village this weekend after classes on Friday.

Meanwhile, Assistant Minister of Local Government Datu Dr Penguang Manggil advised all villagers affected by flood to be on alert and listen to the guidance and advice of the Bomba and Emergency response agencies.

He is visiting Marudi constituency today to assess the situation and follow up on the updates from the respective district offices in Baram.

He had been informed that there was a landslide reported by a longhouse chief ( Tuai Rumah) Sura, and rising water level at several other longhouses in the Marudi constituency.
