KOTA MARUDU: A motorcyclist and his pillion rider were killed after a section of the Kota Marudu/Ranau Road, near Kampung Tolidusan, collapsed on Thursday.

The victims, identified as Jaimin Bien, 46, from Kg Tandahawon, and pillion rider Edmon James, 22, from Kg Melangkap Tengah were believed to be buried alive on Thursday evening but were only found yesterday morning by a rescue team.

District police chief Superintendent Mohd Izaan Abdullah said their investigation at the scene revealed that the road might have collapsed on Thursday night as the victims were passing the area.

“Fire and Rescue personnel dug out the victims’ bodies and took them to the district hospital for a post-mortem,” he said, adding that police were still investigating to determine the time of the incident.

Meanwhile, Kota Mota MArudu Fire and Rescue station chief Sahidi Mahali said the first body was recovered around 8.31am while the second body was dug out at 9.28am.

“Both bodies were handed to the police for further action,” he said, adding that 13 Fire and Rescue personnel were involved in the operation.
