MIRI: Some 200 attended a candlelight vigil at the Miri City Fan on Thursday to commemorate the first anniversary of former Chief Minister Pehin Sri Adenan Satem’s passing.

The vigil began at 7.30pm with a public address system playing a recording of Adenan singing Elvis Presley’s ‘Can’t Help Falling in Love’ and one of his speeches.

Miri Mayor Adam Yii said Adenan was determined to reclaim the rights of Sarawakians according to the Malaysia Agreement 1963.

“Tok Nan, sworn in on Feb 28, 2014, and within the three years as our beloved CM, he had done a lot apart from his 53 goals that he set for himself to achieve during his tenure.

“He contributed greatly to Sarawak. He was a person that walked the talk, had the people of Sarawak close to his heart, and what’s important is that he gave Sarawakians a sense of a future. We felt more optimistic with the way he was handling things,” said Yii.

He also called Adenan the “political soulmate” of the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP).

“SUPP’s philosophy is very much along the lines of the MA63 scenario and without him, SUPP would not be here today. Indeed, he is irreplaceable,” he added.
