KUCHING: An enforcement team from Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) detained a lorry believed to be transporting illegal mangrove poles at Jalan Matang-Batu Kawah bypass on Friday.

According to a press statement from SFC, the team from Kuching Regional Office spurred into action on being tipped off by a member of the public.

The lorry was inspected and found to be loaded with 300 pieces of mangrove (bakau) poles that were believed illegally harvested from Telaga Ai.

The statement also revealed that the driver of the lorry could not show any documents for the mangrove poles.

A report on the raid was lodged at Batu Kawah Police Station and the case will be handed over to the Forest Department for further investigation and disposal.
