MIRI: The Miri Division Amateur Swimming Association (Masa) will be hosting the 45th Sarawak Age Group Swimming Championship next month.

Masa president Cr Rofiza Morshidi, during a courtesy call on Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin yesterday, disclosed that the championship would be held from Feb 2 to 4 at Miri Public Swimming Pool.

The annual swimming meet serves as a venue for swimmers to qualify for the National Age Group Swimming Championship which will be held on March 15-18 at Bukit Jalil in Kuala Lumpur.

“The championship is open only to the state affiliates from the respective divisions of Kuching, Kota Samarahan, Sibu, Kapit, Bintulu, Limbang and Miri. This is the first time that Masa is organising this challenging championship,” Rofiza added.

Meanwhile, Lee commended Masa for its active role in developing elite swimmers through various programmes.

Masa was also lauded for its effort in promoting swimming among primary schools in Miri and the on-going learn-to-swim programme.

Lee also announced minor rural project grant of RM10,000 for the championship and other activities and programmes.
