Suicide bid by woman foiled

KUCHING: A woman was saved from leaping off a shopping complex along Jalan Batu Kawah here yesterday.

Civil Defence Force (APM) spokesperson said the incident happened at around 7.30am, when the department received the distress call indicating that a woman was standing on the ledge of the building and attempting to jump down.

APM personnel and police arrived at the scene at 8.25am and  managed to dissuade the 25-year-old woman from Kampung Melayu near here from jumping. Their plea was heeded as she surrendered herself to the authorities after about 20 minutes.

The woman who was dressed shabbily in t-shirt and ‘sarong’ was later taken to the Sarawak General Hospital.

Separately, a motorcyclist cheated death after he survived a collision with a car at Taman Gita, Jalan Matang yesterday.

It was reported that the car was exiting from a junction before it crashed with the motorcyclist.

An ambulance was summoned to the scene and the victim was taken to hospital for treatment.
