KUCHING: Focusing on the preparation of its athletes for the 19th Sukma in Perak this September is the main priority and part of the activities for the Sarawak Muaythai Association (PMNS) this year.

Its president Jumaat Ibrahim said Sukma XIX promises a stiff competition for all contingents including Sarawak in their search for glory.

As such, Jumaat has lined up several plans in the effort to prepare the state’s muaythai fighters for the challenge in September.

“Our fighters need to undergo serious training and exposure outside the state so that they can  compete with their counterparts from other states at Sukma XIX.

“For that purpose, PMNS will be implementing several programmes when the Sarawak State Sports Council (MSNS) have approved the budget,” he said.

According to Jumaat, PMNS would also be carrying out several annual activities such as organising major competitions.

Two big events – the TYT Cup and the Sarawak Chief Minister’s Cup – will be organised as usual while the prestigious Borneo Cup is pending approval from the authorities involved.

“We will also continue with our development programmes at grassroots level and ensure that our fighters get to compete in

local and international competitions.

“In this matter, we are very grateful to the state government especially MSNS for the strong support for our programmes.

“We are also fortunate to have the assistance from MSNS officer Alex who understands our activities well and help us to make sure the programmes undertaken are successful,” he added.

He is also hoping that 2018

would be another good year for PMNS and Sarawak in the muaythai arena be it at the national or international level.
