MIRI: Two schools in Tinjar Baram – SK Kuala Bok and SK Sungai Bong – were closed today due to flood.
The closure of SK Kuala Bok affected 62 pupils and 12 teachers, while 122 pupils and 13 teachers were affected at SK Sungai Bong.
According to a statement from state Fire and Rescue department (Bomba) Operation Centre, heavy rain since last night until early today had caused the flood.
“The water level continues to rise this morning compared to yesterday.
“There is no class session today, but the teachers and staff are still at the school,” it said.
The statement added that Bomba Marudi had been deployed to the area to monitor the situation.
Meanwhile, a source at SK Sungai Bong said the classroom on the ground floor was 1.7 feet under water.
“The school compound was flooded to a depth of about 3.2 feet and it is rising.
“It was raining in the morning, which led to the flood water rising,” he said.
