KUCHING: A clerk was sentenced to a total of 124 months’ jail by the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday for committing criminal breach of trust involving a sum of RM9,000.

Liew Ann Nee, a 37-year-old mother-of-three, remained calm after she was found guilty by Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi, who convicted her on eight charges under Section 408 of the Penal Code.

For each of the charge, Liew was sentenced to 12 months, 13 months, 14 months, 15 months, 16 months, 17 months, 18 months and 19 months in jail, respectively.

The magistrate, however, ordered the sentence to run concurrently, meaning she will only serve 19 months in prison starting yesterday.

Liew was found guilty of misappropriating between RM260 and RM2,700 from Dec 15 to Dec 24, 2014 between 2pm and 6pm.

She took the money, belonging to a mobile phone shop where she worked, for her own use.

Yesterday, Zubaidah allowed Liew’s application for a stay of execution of her sentence.

DPP Anas Basari did not reject the application as Liew needed to look after her three children and aged parents, who are sick.

Liew was represented by counsel Lim Lian Kee.
