KUCHING: Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak (PBDS) Baru has urged the police to act over a poison-pen letter circulating in social media recently.

Its president Cobbold John lodged a police report on the matter yesterday having been summoned earlier by police to have his statement recorded over a recent post on his social media account regarding letter.

He called on the police to probe the letter as it contained a derogatory word against the Iban community.

“For the sake of Sarawak unity, we do not want such matter (poison-pen letter) to happen here.

“Therefore, we hope that the police will do their work,” he said when met at the district police headquarters in Simpang Tiga, here yesterday.

Cobbold also said that three others from PBDS Baru came forward to give their statement on the content of the letter being shared in social media.

When asked about his post, Cobbold said the people should not be stopped from sharing such information, saying it was up to each individual to evaluate the content.

He also denied involvement in writing the letter, saying: “It wasn’t me who wrote it. I just copied and pasted the transcribed version of the letter.”

He also stressed that PBDS Baru will give its full cooperation to the police to facilitate investigation.
