Attendants’ swift action saves petrol station from fire

KOTA SAMARAHAN: Swift action by the attendants of a fuel station located along Kuching – Kota Samarahan Expressway managed to douse off the flames after the premises was involved in what was believed to be a ‘petrol bomb’ arson attack.

Witnesses said that they saw two unidentified men on a motorcycle, leaving the scene after throwing what was believed to be a petrol bomb at around 12.05am today.

The incident had cause about 10 per cent damage to a fuel pump unit.

State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) assistant operation director Tiong Ling Hii when contacted, said they received an emergency call on the incident at around 12.07 am.

Kota Samarahan Fire Station personnel were then deployed to the scene.

“However, upon arrival at the scene about 10 minutes later, firefighters found that the fire had been fully doused off, thanks to the efficiency and quick action of the station attendants using two units of fire extinguisher,” he said.

Tiong added that the fuel station manager then contacted the police for further action.
