SHAH ALAM: An unemployed man was charged in the magistrates court here yesterday with the kidnap of a businessman’s son for ransom of RM300,000 last month.
K Poonganeswaran, 35, nodded after the charge was read out to him, but no plea was recorded.
He was charged with six others still at large with abducting the 35-year-old victim for ransom at Jalan 1B/8, Bandar Baru Sungai Buloh near here at about 9.10pm on Dec 12, 2017.
The charge, under Section 3 of the Kidnapping Act 1961, read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code, provides for the death sentence, or imprisonment for life, and shall, if not sentenced to death, also be liable to whipping, upon conviction.
Magistrate Raja Noor Adilla Raja Mahyaldin set Feb 20 for mention.
